2017 PROGRAMMING: 

 

  • STEP UP To The Stage: Our next open mic night is October 11 from 5- 8 pm at Clearwater Grill. Please join us to perform, enjoy some delicious food, and support STEP VA! Donations support our scholarship program and growth opportunities.

 

  • FALL CLASS SERIES: MUSIC AND YOGA FOR ADULTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS4 class series using yoga and music activities to provide a unique sensory experience for adults (18+) with special needs.
    • When: October 30, November 6, 13, and 20 from 6:30-8:30 pm
    • Where: Hope Presbyterian Church, 11121 Leavells Road
    • Cost: For 4 classes-$40. Single class-$15 per class.
    • Registration: Application HERE: 2017 fall adult app. Pay via PayPal above or check/cash on first day of class. Please submit application by email or mail.
  • 2017 Adult Fall Ball: ENCHANTED FOREST! Thank you to everyone who come to this wonderful night! Special ‘thank you’s’ to DJ Trapper John, Clearwater Grill & Catering, and Grace Church of Fredericksburg for helping us put on a special night!
  • A STEP Beyond! A Specialty Intensive Session: Thank you to Sarah Griffin and Corey Holmes for leading this session! Also, thank you to CYT Fredericksburg for allowing us to use your studio space!
  • Summer Session 2017: July 24-28, 2017. For children ages 5-21 years old. ***ALL SCHOLARSHIPS and SLOTS 2017 have been filled. PROGRAM available here: 2017 performance program!
  • STEP Up to the Stage: Thank you to everyone who came out to support STEP VA and made our first open mic night a HUGE success! Thank you especially to Sarah Griffin for organizing and MCing the event and to Clearwater Grill for hosting us! We look forward to the next one! 

 


2016:

  • Fall Festival: Thank you to all the cowboys, cowgirls, and their little buckaroos who came to our second annual Fall Family Fun Day!
  • Under the Autumn Moon-Adult Fall Ball: Thank you to everyone who helped make our first ball for adults with special needs a HUGE success!
  • Adult Ball Dress Distribution: Ladies, come join us to “shop” for a gown to wear to the ball! We have 65 dresses to choose from! September 9 from 12 pm-5 pm and September 10 from 10 am-3 pm. Grace Church Fredericksburg, 1141 Heatherstone Drive.
  • SUMMER SESSION 2016: Join STEP VA for a jungle adventure during a week-long program for school-aged children with special needs (5-23 years old). July 11-15 at Battlefield Middle School. 2 sessions available (9 am-12 pm and 1 pm-4 pm). Application Fee $20 (pay by check or PayPal button above). Register HERE. Email us with questions!

Spring 2016:

  • ADULT YOGA and DANCE SESSION: Join STEP VA this spring for a 4 week series of calming yoga paired with dance. This series is geared toward adults age 18+ who have cognitive and/or physical disabilities. Sessions will provide a supportive and nurturing environment for the participants. April 4, 11, 18, 25 at the Kingswood Clubhouse, 11600 Kingswood Blvd, Fredericksburg, VA 22408. Register here and pay via PayPal above or via check.

 

  • SPRING DANCE WORKSHOPS: FREE due to generous grant provided by the Duff McDuff Green, Jr. Fund of The Community Foundation! April 30, May 7, 14, 21 at Amyclae Dance Academy, 45 Walpole Street, Stafford, VA 22554. Register here.
    • Ages 3-6: 11 am-12 pm

  • GOLF TOURNAMENT: STEP VA is excited to be partnering with CYT Fredericksburg for the Golf Classic on Wednesday, May 4!! This event will be held at Lee’s Hill Golf Club and a portion of the proceeds will underwrite our summer sessions! Click HERE for more information and to REGISTER.

 

  • AUTISM CONFERENCE: Rappahannock Area Autism Council is hosting Autism-Putting the Puzzle Together Across a Lifespan on May 14, 2016 from 9 am-3 pm at the Caroline County Community Center. Visit HERE for more information and to register.

  •  FALL FAMILY FUN DAY! STEP VA wants to thank everyone for coming to our first Fall Family Fun Day on October 25! We had a great time playing games, enjoying cotton candy and funnel cakes, and painting pumpkins to take home! Also, a HUGE thank you to Ron Rosner YMCA for allowing us to host this wonderful event! Sign up for a one day mini-workshop for preschoolers with special needs, who are between 3-6 years of age. Join us as we use music, movement, and play to explore our environment. Theatre activities will promote voice, movement, creativity, and social interaction on many levels. This series is geared toward adults age 18+ who have cognitive and/or physical disabilities. Sessions will provide a supportive and nurturing environment for the participants. When: March 16, 23, 30, April 6 from 6:30-8:30 pm   Volunteer TrainingTraining led by STEP VA professionals to educate on working with children with special needs. Adrian Forsythe, an aspiring actor with Down syndrome and his parents, will be joining us to present during the training. Held on April 24 at the CYT Studios: 806 Westwood Office Park, Fredericksburg, VA 22401. Visit the volunteer page for application.   School Age WorkshopFling Into Spring Unknown Get a taste of STEP VA this spring with a one day theatre workshop for children with special needs ages 5-23. Youth leaders from the local theatre group CYT, who have been trained by STEP VA, will lead participants through activities that promote movement, voice, and imagination. Allow your child to enjoy positive interaction with peers in a comfortable and supportive environment. Adrian Forsythe, an aspiring actor with Down syndrome and his parents, will be joining us to present to the parents/caregivers during the workshop. When: April 25 9 am-12 pm   CYT Fredericksburg 1st Annual Golf Classic CYT_Golf_Logo_3x3 May 6, 2015 at 9 am at Lee’s Hill Golf Club STEP VA is excited to partner with CYT to host this golf tournament. A portion of the proceeds will help underwrite our summer session for children with special needs! Winter 2014-Parade: STEP VA participated in the 2014 Fredericksburg Christmas Parade! Join our float on Saturday, December 6! A special ‘thank you’ to Morton’s Power Equipment and CYT-Fredericksburg for their support in making our float possible! IMG_1960     Dancing Around the World: A 6 week session series in fall 2014 using yoga practice and dance techniques from different parts of the world to provide a unique sensory experience. Our first offering for adults with cognitive or physical disabilities (ages 18 years+) was a great success!
