PAST EVENTS: Spring Programs–Preschool Mini Workshop-Playtime Pals Preschoolers are invited to Shake, Rattle and Roll with us this Spring! Sign up for a one day mini-workshop for preschoolers with special needs, who are between 3-6 years of age. Join us as we use music, movement, and play to explore our environment. When: March 7 from 10 am-12 pm Adult Class Series–Expression Session Join STEP VA this Spring for a fabulous 4 week series of calming yoga paired with theatrical expression. Theatre activities will promote voice, movement, creativity, and social interaction on many levels. This series is geared toward adults age 18+ who have cognitive and/or physical disabilities. Sessions will provide a supportive and nurturing environment for the participants. When: March 16, 23, 30, April 6 from 6:30-8:30 pm Volunteer Training–Training led by STEP VA professionals to educate on working with children with special needs. Adrian Forsythe, an aspiring actor with Down syndrome and his parents, will be joining us to present during the training. Held on April 24 at the CYT Studios: 806 Westwood Office Park, Fredericksburg, VA 22401. Visit the volunteer page for application. School Age Workshop–Fling Into Spring Get a taste of STEP VA this spring with a one day theatre workshop for children with special needs ages 5-23. Youth leaders from the local theatre group CYT, who have been trained by STEP VA, will lead participants through activities that promote movement, voice, and imagination. Allow your child to enjoy positive interaction with peers in a comfortable and supportive environment. Adrian Forsythe, an aspiring actor with Down syndrome and his parents, will be joining us to present to the parents/caregivers during the workshop. When: April 25 9 am-12 pm CYT Fredericksburg 1st Annual Golf Classic May 6, 2015 at 9 am at Lee’s Hill Golf Club STEP VA is excited to partner with CYT to host this golf tournament. A portion of the proceeds will help underwrite our summer session for children with special needs! Winter 2014-Parade: STEP VA participated in the 2014 Fredericksburg Christmas Parade! Join our float on Saturday, December 6! A special ‘thank you’ to Morton’s Power Equipment and CYT-Fredericksburg for their support in making our float possible! Dancing Around the World: A 6 week session series in fall 2014 using yoga practice and dance techniques from different parts of the world to provide a unique sensory experience. Our first offering for adults with cognitive or physical disabilities (ages 18 years+) was a great success! A HUGE ‘thank you’ to our yoga instructor (Megan) and our dance instructors (Erin, Alison, Megan, Kysha, and Corey). July 28-August 1: Summer Session 2014 was a HUGE success!
